Proverbs 5:1 (KJV)

“My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding;”

This verse is a direct call to active listening and disciplined attention. Wisdom is not absorbed by passive thought; it is heard with ears, pondered with heart, and practiced by the feet. To “attend unto wisdom” is to orient your senses toward truth — not just think about it, but hear it, receive it, and respond.

Further in Proverbs 21:23 we read:

“…For the ways of a man are before the eyes of Yahweh, and he pondereth all his goings.

Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.”

The ways we walk are visible to God. Our own inequities bind us — like cords of sin — and folly leads us astray. But wisdom, listening, and obedience preserve and direct the soul.
