“Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things…

To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words…

For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.”

This portion of Proverbs reveals the power of moral discernment: that discretion and understanding preserve, protect, and deliver. The “evil man” and “strange woman” are not always literal people — often they are voices, influences, and systems that draw us astray. In our age, these appear through screens, feeds, and likes, tempting with flattering words and seductive ideas. Without discretion — honoring God’s wisdom — we are easily drawn into deception.
